Field Day is a picnic, a campout, practice for emergencies, an informal contest and, most of all, FUN! Past Field Day FCARC HamFest is held the first Sunday in November. What is a Hamfests?, Hamfests are events organized by amateur radio enthusiasts, for social gathering and promotion of the amateur radio hobby. Typically annual events held on a weekend, they can last from several hours to several days. Most feature a flea market where the attendees buy and sell radio and related equipment. The equipment found at a hamfest can vary significantly from the newest high-tech gear to used, refurbished, or even antique equipment, and haggling or bargaining is the most common means of sale. Equipment that originally sold at great expense to commercial users (such as public safety agencies) can often be found at a fraction of the price. Examples of information being exchanged between the FCARC and event coordinators includes medical emergencies, welfare checks, status reports on participants, or a request for the sag wagon. In order for effective and efficient radio traffic to be passed from the event operators to event officials, the FCARC is asking all participants read the following guidelines before transmitting on your radio for an FCARC communication event. Automatic Packet Reporting System (APRS) is an amateur radio-based system for real time tactical digital communications of information of immediate value in the local area.[1] In addition, all such data is ingested into the APRS Internet System (APRS-IS) and distributed globally for ubiquitous and immediate access. Along with messages, alerts, announcements and bulletins, the most visible aspect of APRS is its map display. Anyone may place any object or information on his or her map, and it is distributed to all maps of all users in the local RF network or monitoring the area via the Internet. Any station, radio or object that has an attached GPS is automatically tracked. Other prominent map features are weather stations, alerts and objects and other map-related amateur radio volunteer activities including Search and Rescue and signal direction finding. DXing is the hobby of receiving and identifying distant radio or television signals, or making two way radio contact with distant stations in amateur radio, or other two way radio communications. Many DXers also attempt to obtain written verifications of reception or contact, sometimes referred to as "QSLs". The name of the hobby comes from DX, telegraphic shorthand fores" "distance" or "distant". The practice of DXing arose during the early days of radio broadcasting. Listeners would mail "reception reports" to radio broadcasting stations in hopes of getting a written acknowledgement or a QSL card that served to officially verify they had heard a distant station. Collecting these cards became popular with radio listeners in the 1920s and 1930s, and reception reports were often used by early broadcasters to gauge the effectiveness of their transmissions. Although international shortwave broadcasts are on the decline, DXing remains popular among dedicated shortwave listeners. The pursuit of two-way contact between distant amateur radio operators is also a significant activity within the amateur radio hobby. =====History===== The Fox Cities Amateur Radio Club was established on October 21, 1985. The Neenah-Menasha Amateur Radio Club membership voted on this date to CHANGE THE NAME of the club and to revise the BY-LAWS to better represent the Amateur Radio Community of this local area. On November 26th 2003 the Fox Cities Amateur Radio Club became incorporated in the State of Wisconsin as a nonprofit. ====Founding Members==== ^ Fox Cities Amateur Radio Club charter members ^^^ |Baker, Don NB9J|Ballinger, Ralph N9ECS|Banks, Gary N9ER| |Bayer, Dan WB9QFX|Bieglow, Jack KA9JOL|Boland, David W9NWY| |Borree, Bob WD9CYX|Borree, Hellen WD9CYW|Clusen, Jerry N9AYN| |Croy, George W9MDP|De Groot, Dan N9DCW |Fafnis, Ron WD9DFH| |Flenz, Mike WB9ANR|Hewitt, Virginia N9CSG|Hoyer, Roy WB9QKW| |Keating, Gary ND9Z|Kimbal, Dave KA9NNI|Kirsling, Dave KD9GM| |Kosiorek, Rick N9ALF|Loehning, Dick N9ACP |Mead, Maury W9FBC | |Michel, Mark W9OP|Michel, Joan WD9YDT|Neiling, Tom KA9QKD| |O'kane, Bill WD9HLN|Pardee, Lester KA9MMP|Pickett, Bruce K9VSY| |Roll, Dick W9TA|Ronk, Bob KB9IE|Saler, James NK9D| |Schreiber, Kathy KA9JDV|Schreiber, Ron KA9JDU|Sheetz, Jim K9OQO| |Seibers, Larry KD9IA|Thorne, Bob K9DAF|Thorne, Karen WB9ZNA| |Thorne, Tony KA9HYD|Van Dyn Hoven, Gus K9GXR|Van Ryzin, Gary KB9XG| |Van Der Burgt, Ade K9DHR|Van Der Burgt, Jay KA9MSR|Weingartner, Al KA9RKV| |Weyenberg, Mark WB9CQG|Wickert, Keith W9DKY|Yost, Donald WD9GOR | |Zuiker, Paul KA9GOU||| This is a Wiki containing information about the Fox Cities Amateur Radio Club (FCARC) and Ham Radio.\\ © 2018 Fox Cities Amateur Radio Club All rights Reserved
